America

America

A Poem by DriDri

America- The Land of Opportunity

Where little boys are shot in cold blood murder,

clinching nothing but skittles and draw-stringed hoodies.

Their tears are screaming for a mothers’ safety.

What a pretty picture-

Collection by America the Beautiful.

Where elderly women of Iraqi descent are beaten to death

in their own homes.

Gasping next to notes saying they don’t belong here.

Here in the land of the brave.

Where hatred breathes and violence sings,

Where love is cold and what is new can never be.

To be different and bold strikes fear in the old and seasoned.

Why not let our bravery and sincerity in identity

reignite your flame?

Be brave in the journey we can bring.

DON’T SHOOT! WE COME IN PEACE!

We place our hands where you can see

and spread our legs for you to search this piece.

Confound to the caged boundaries of a cop car

or pressed to a cold brick

by way of a colder stream

from the firehouse hose.

It is when we speak and when we share what we think

that you have the opportunity to dream -

what was it to be an American?

Here? In the land of the free?

America.

Well put, and a sentiment shared by many other Americans today I am sure. Things need to change, but unfortunately they usually change for the worse when they change at all.

I believe there is one typo, BTW: I think 'Confound' was meant to be 'Confined'.

Nicely done.
