Who Do You Like? (A Conversation With Society)

Who Do You Like? (A Conversation With Society)

A Poem by Snow In July
"

Written for my school's Gender and Sexuality Allience

"

Kindergarten
"Who do you like?"
I like Casper, with his blue eyes
and curly black hair
I shyly hand him a rainbow crayon just to see him smile
"That's adorable. Little kids are so cute."
Fourth Grade
"Who do you like?"
I like Daniel, with his shy blush
and pretty hazel eyes
He played doctor with me - It was true love, I'm sure
"Look at them! She's got a boyfriend!"
Seventh Grade
"Who do you like?"
I like Alyssa, with her black hair
and flamboyant grin
She taught me not to fear others' opinions
"WAIT"
"You can't like her!"
Why not, society?
"Well, she's a girl!"
Yes, and so am I.
"That's why you can't."
It doesn't seem so bad to me.
"But it is"
No.

Tenth Grade
"Who do you like?"
I like Kaiti, with her seafoam eyes
and surfer blonde hair
She likes me, too
What else matters? Certainly not your opinion, society.
"But, what if-"
No. I'm happy, and happy is good.
"But it's wro-"
No.
I like who I like
Love isn't a gender
Love is pure.
