One More Day

One More Day

A Poem by Damon Chambers

I have often thought about how life would be had God let you stay
There is only one wish I would want and that is just one more day

One day isn't asking for much but it's more than I have right now
One last hug would be amazing to me my simple request if you would just allow

I know it's not something that will ever come to be
But just imagining that it could happen sets my worries free

I never thought that it would hurt this much
Not having you here to comfort me with just a simple touch

Even though we are taught that eventually everyone will leave
Preparing yourself for an emptiness that is impossible to conceive

I know we shall meet again somewhere down the road
But why does it seem as if time has slowed

Mom I know that you are here watching over me
So the only other wish I have is to lIve my life and make you proud of me.
