Struggling with Religion

Struggling with Religion

A Poem by Daniel
"

For a while now I have had many opposing view points on the basis of a religion and this is just my way of letting it out and expressing my feelings.

"
Take a second-
Imagine a needy white mother asking God for a blessing/
Step back a minute-
And you'll spot her in the club with a strange man undressing/
The night, how she'll spend it-
On her back, in a bed of a man she'd never met/
So what does this mean for the rest of it?/
Does she get her blessing?/
Will she be left guessing?/
What is it to a prostitute to ask for a blessing, even though she knew not to be out and undressing-
She never gets it.

Take a second-
Imagine a child, in a horrific war zone praying for safety/
Step back a minute-
See the bombs bursting, the fires, and the bullets flying lately/
The night, how he'll spend it-
Fetal position, praying for his life to not be ended/
So what does this mean for the rest of it?/
Will there be an end to the fighting?/
Will he be left guessing?/
What is it for a child to ask for safety in a conflict he did not start but he is sensing-
He never gets it

Did the war-zoned boy get safety, no he did not/
Did the mother get her blessing, no she did not/
There are similarities here that are plain to see/
The child did no wrong, but only to live, to breath/
While mother did what was needed, just to provide for her kids/
Neither of these obtained aid-
From a higher being, or from what the taxes pay/

Both asked for help, but neither gained any/
It is things like these that make me think plenty/

Why would a pure and righteous being allow this to happen/
Do only the rich and powerful deserve wealth and action?
