My Weakness

My Weakness

A Poem by Summer Blue

Looking into those tiny little eyes.

I see a reflection.

I could see myself in you.

Already feeling protective.

I felt a connection that I could never bare to lose.

So fragile, so innocent, and so new.

Battling everything you had to.

Wanting to be strong for you.

Holding back the tears of feeling weak,

I find myself praying for you.

Waiting for answers.

I am angry…I cry…I even miss you.

I can’t live with myself if you don’t pull through.

I convince myself of picturing you at age two.

To give me some hope that I won’t lose you.

As the call comes through.

I begin to shake.

Trying to be calm.

But I am so afraid to hear that I lost you.

For a moment I lost my breathe.

Thought you did too.

When she said, “he did it”!

He is a fighter like you!

He did it Pappy!

He made it through!

All these emotions flowed through my body at once.

It was then I felt my first real weakness.

Now I know someday you will feel it too.

“Baby boy” … “Pappy’s weakness is YOU”!

I wrote this a year or so ago when my good friend Tony got a call that I believe changed his life forever... He was told his new born grandson may not pull through ... Thank goodness he did!

A very good poem. From the first line you brought me in. All life is precious and as soon as the baby is in belly. It become part of two people life. I like the emotion and desire for the safety of the baby boy. You wrote a powerful poem with a very true ending.
