Clatter King

Clatter King

A Poem by David Darabian
"

OLD FOLKSONG [Should be read in Verse] Anglo-Saxon song of King Edward VI.

"

The old man removed his hat

And climbed up to where the regal sat.

Good day to you, Sirs and Ladies. He greeted as he met their eyes.

I’ve come to claim the throne, the earth and the skies.

Give me a crown and you shall see,

That I am more king, more worthy than any of the’

I will grant them smiles and laugher,

I will grind them corn and have them prosper.

For in every man I see a king,

Worthy this song I now sing.

The king is a fool on a golden platter,

Who walks around and run when it matters.

Give him an egg, and he’ll crack his head.

For he is the fool with the jingle clatter.

When the old finished his song, it didn’t take long,

before the king rose all puffy and red

With steam rising from his head,

Seize him! He screamed in rage.

Two guards now entered the stage,

And chased the old till they were stiff and sore.

I’ll let you rest, tomorrow ther’ll be more.

Now let me tell you about your king,

Worthy this song I now sing

The king is a fool on a golden platter,

Who walks around and run when it matters.

Give him an egg, and he’ll crack his head.

For he is the fool with the jingle clatter.

And there he sings until today

At least that’s what the story had to say.

Not an anglo-saxon song at all, but my own. I only wanted you to get into that, late medieval/early renaissance mood and read the song as befits, in the right rythm hopefully.
