Just Like You

Just Like You

A Poem by Stormy Weather

I was never around to observe your choices
I was too young to understand your life.
But, as I grew, so did my respect.
I knew that someday I wanted to be just like you.

From far away I saw you.
I liked how you seemed to be.
Your life was something I could marvel at.
It was simple, but you were happy.
I tried to grow to be just like you.

Everything seemed to be perfect in your corner.
That made me smile. I knew you were perfect.
Who I wanted to be someday-I vowed-
Just like you.

I watched your perfection crumble to the ground.
It made me weep, because you caused your own destruction.
You took everything you had, and broke it.
And, probably worst of all, you broke people.
Matter-of-factly, you left the shattered remains to rot alone.

I let people break, and cry.
I take their lives without giving a second thought.
My life is brilliant, and I forget about my messes.
My actions; f*****g up lives.
And that's how I know I've become
Just like you.
