Controlled Fall

Controlled Fall

A Poem by Dark2Light

Dark and handsome

He reminds me of the 40’s somehow

Of old Hollywood and cigars

But that’s probably because of the restaurant atmosphere.

Or because he was wearing a blazer.

Or the second

Or the third beer

The kiss did it.

A lot of kisses do.

The first one at least.

But that one was really good.

I do not know him

This is the nice part

I like this part

Everything is new.

Take my time, enjoy it all

It’s the next parts that are tricky

The slow release: attempts at a controlled fall.

The rush of new love is something I never did learn to control. No matter how many times I told myself to ease in through the shallow end to adjust, I'd find myself leaping into bottomless waters yelling, "cannonball!"

I really liked this piece. It's romantic, especially the first two lines, and it drips with self-awareness. I really enjoyed it.

Well done!
