A Thousand Stairs

A Thousand Stairs

A Poem by Megan Bradton
"

A short monorhyme about suicide.

"

A Thousand Stairs

A thousand stairs is far too high

When all she wants is to say goodbye,

And her heart is too heavy to try.

But still she climbs toward the sky,

Beneath her whole world's watchful eye

Where, heedless of their mournful cry,

And too exhausted for another lie,

She, like a bird for freedom, begins to fly.
