Ch.2: New Roots

Ch.2: New Roots

A Chapter by Datherine100

It was a beautiful day, as Katherine walked through the town. When she was by a corner though, she heard sirens, which was when she saw the town sheriff, Graham, stop his car and then get out. It was obvious to her that he wanted something. It seemed that everyone wanted something in this town, one way or another.

"What's up with the siren?" she questioned him.

"Well, it's so hard to get your attention," he replied to her, walking over to her.

"Well, you've got my attention now. What do you want?" she asked him.

"I thought I'd offer you a job. I could use a deputy. That is, if you're staying," he replied.

She'd been thinking about staying in this town, since it seemed that no one from her world anytime soon was getting in. It was safer here for her among fairytales, it seemed.

"Sure, I guess," she replied, figuring Regina probably wouldn't like it, but she didn't care if she liked it or not. Regina was mayor, but she didn't get a say in what every single person did in this town. Besides, if Henry was right, she was supposed to help them get their happy endings. Maybe if she helped everyone do that, then she could gets her own. At the very least, she'd get some real true friends that she rarely had as a vampire. "Is Regina going to be okay with this?" she added.

“I don’t care. It’s my department," he replied.

Later, she got settled in as the new deputy, which Regina sure as hell hated. She knew Regina couldn't do much against her, though. Especially, when Katherine and Henry knew that when she'd put on the deputy's badge, Regina's curse had begun to weaken. The crickets even came back.

The next night, after she'd found out about Regina and Graham, Graham tried to explain that he didn't feel anything with Regina. Then he kissed her, which gave him images of the woods and other things. Then he pulled away, asking if she saw that, but she didn't.

"I didn't see anything. What did you see?" she wanted to know, though she didn't enjoy the moment when he'd kissed her just to feel something. He was clearly confused, but she didn't think he was drunk or anything.

"Woods and a wolf. It had a red eye. And there was a knife and Mary Margaret," he informed her.

"I think it's time that you know something then," she replied, but didn't say anything else, needing to be somewhere without Regina's eyes and ears being near them.

Once at the sheriff station, she informed him, "Henry has this book of fairytale stories. Those images you say you saw remind me of one of the stories in his book. The Huntsman was sent by the Evil Queen to kill Snow White, but he showed mercy to her. When she found out, she took his heart so he could never feel again. If you saw those images, that means you're a Huntsman. That wolf you saw is your guide, because you grew up with wolves. They raised you. It makes sense why you don't feel anything."

"You're right. It makes perfect sense," he agreed. "Why did I just see them when I kissed you, though?" he wanted to know.

"Probably because Henry thinks I'm supposed to bring everyone's happy endings back. If it's true, then that means I'm weakening the curse by everyday I'm here. It started when I put on the deputy's badge," she replied.

The next night, because Regina didn't want Graham to be remembering his real life, she crushed his heart, killing him when he was at the police station with Katherine.

A few days later, after an election for sheriff, as well as when Katherine stood up for Gold for setting a fire to try and help Katherine to win the election, Katherine became the town sheriff, ending Regina's power over the police station.
