![]() Ch.4: The Queen and Shattered SightA Chapter by Datherine100It was a beautiful day in Storybrooke, as Kat and Damon headed down the side of the road. Everything had been peaceful in town for a while. Damon and Kat had even began to have a sort of relationship again. Suddenly, they stopped in their tracks, seeing someone unfamiliar walking down the road silently, a trail of ice following behind her. She wasn't in any fairytales they grew up with, so they didn't know who she was. The only thing they knew was that it looked like she had some kind of ice ability. If the trail was anything to go by. Damon put a hand on her arm, when she began to head towards the unfamiliar person, stopping her from going further. "What are you doing?" She looked at him. "I'm going to have a little conversation if you don't mind," she replied. "Just because someone has abilities we don't know of doesn't make that person a bad one," she added. He let go of her arm. "Fine, but I'm going with you." He didn't want to take a chance that something would happen to her. Kat cautiously walked over until she was a little ways in front of her. "Welcome to Storybrooke," she greeted. "I'm Katherine. This is Damon. Who are you?" The lady stopped when two people stood a little bit in front of her, unsure of their intentions, a hand ready in case she had to protect herself. When the lady in front of her spoke though, it seemed as if they weren't a threat, so she put her hand back at her side. "Elsa." "It's nice to meet you, Elsa. What are you doing here if you don't mind me asking? It's been a while since we've had any new faces here." "I don't know how I got here, but I'm looking for my sister, Ana. Have you seen her?" "I don't know what your sister looks like, but if she's in fact here, then we'll help you locate her. I know what it feels like to not know where your family is that you care so much about," she replied and admitted to her, still remembering the long ago feeling when she hadn't been able to find her own daughter back in 1498. She then asked Elsa, "Can you control your powers? If you can control them, we can talk to some people we know that could help us help you." "I don't know how. I'm the only one with my type of powers," she informed her. "Your abilities...anyone's abilities. They're all connected to your emotions. If you can be calm, then your powers shouldn't spiral when you don't want them to. I've got more experience with these kinds of things than I'd like to admit sometimes." "Ana's tried helping me control them, but I haven't learned how to. But Ana does help. Which is one reason why I must find her," Elsa informed her. "We'll find her, but right now, let's get your ability under control. Then let's go see Rumple. He could have something of hers to help find out where she is. He collects things," she explained to her. After Kat had helped Elsa with getting her magic in control for now, they entered the shop, Elsa following. Kat saw that Rumple and Belle were both on the other side of the glass counter. "It appears that our honeymoon is over, " Rumple commented. "Elsa's looking for her sister, Ana," Kat stated. "And this involves me, because...?" Rumple inquired of her, not wanting to help. "I was hoping you had something of hers so we could locate her," Kat told him. "Well, for that, I'd have to know who this Ana is exactly," he replied to her. "So, you're not going to help us," Kat assumed. Elsa had been browsing through stuff of his, which was where she found something familiar. A wishing star necklace. When she saw it, she took it from where it had been hanging, before approaching them. "This is hers. This is Ana's necklace," Elsa told Katherine, holding it up. "Then she's probably in town some place," Kat assured her. "We'll find her." She wasn't going to waste any time trying to persuade him to help them find Elsa's sister. They could do that on their own with those that might be more willing to help out. "If you decide that you want to help, you know where to find me," she told him. Then she turned and left with Elsa and Damon. About half an hour later, Kat headed for an apartment with Damon and Elsa. "Where are we going?" he inquired of her. "This is where Charming will be. We could use some heroes to help us. Maybe he knows how to find her," she explained to him. They hadn't been anywhere near Charming or Snow's place since arriving here, so he hadn't known that this was their place. She stood outside the door and knocked. After a moment, he opened it. "What do you want?" he asked her. "We could use some hero help. Elsa's new in town, and she's looking for her sister. Rumple isn't in the helping mood, but Elsa found her sister's necklace. Her name's Ana." "I think I know who Ana is," he told her, seeing the necklace. "I knew her as Joan, though. She was branded in our world by Bo Peep. And I know exactly where Peep might be here," he then explained. "Elsa, it might be a good idea if you stay here. It's safe. We'll be back as soon as we can," Kat told her. Kat and Damon followed Charming to Bo Peep's butcher shop, where Charming and Kat came in together. Damon came in from the back just in case. "Sorry, Lambkins. We're closed," Peep told Charming, a butcher knife in hand, having been cutting up meet on a cutting board. "I need your help," he told her. "You and me. We ain't friends," Peep reminded him. "I'm not interested. Get out." "You don't have your helpers here with you anymore, Peep," he reminded her. "Right. I just have one," she said. "Say hello." She went to throw the butcher knife at him, but Damon grabbed her wrist from behind, before grabbing the butcher knife, setting it on the table. Then he pinned her against a close by wall. "I don't think so," Damon commented. "We need to find someone. Someone you branded," Charming told her, standing not far from where Damon had her. "I branded a lot of people," she reminded him. "Her name was Ana. She went by Joan back then," Charming told her, trying to jog her memory. "Do I look like I keep a record book? 'Cause I don't." "Then you know what we need," Charming replied. Then, a moment later, Charming told her, "Katherine, back room. She won't keep it far from her. You're looking for a shepherd's crook." Then he helped Damon keep Peep from trying to stop her from finding it. Kat came back after a moment with it in her hand. "That's my personal property! Give it up!" Peep shouted. "Sorry," Charming said, before they both let her go, as Kat headed for the door. "So, in this world, you're a hero?" Peep said. "In this world, I don't have to answer to you," Charming told her. Then he headed for the door, telling them, "Let's go find Ana." When they got back to the Charming residence, Damon was invited in. Then Charming handed Elsa the crook to find Ana. At first nothing happened, but then everyone in the room could hear a heartbeat, which let them know that she was alive. A moment later, Snow entered. "Who are you?" she inquired of Elsa. "Elsa." "We gonna find her sister," Charming informed her. He then went to stand by Snow White, and then told Elsa, "That's what we do. We find people. We always do. Because we really...really don't like to give up." Elsa gave a smile at that. A few days later, they still hadn't figured out where Ana was, but had figured out that there was someone else in town similar to Elsa's powers. But instead of it being ice powers, it was snowflake-like powers. Able to create ice, but also snow. They'd already had a run in with her, and she wasn't exactly friendly, so they decided they'd dig up anything they could on who she was. And what better way than reading files at the station? And so, that's where Kat, Elsa, and Damon currently were, Damon leaned against a wall, while Elsa stood not far from the front door. Kat brought out and set a box of files on one of the station desks. "There's got to be something on her. Something that says who she is. You can't come up against someone without knowing who they are, what they're capable of, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. I learned that quite a long time ago," she explained to Elsa, as she opened the box. "There has to be a better strategy," Elsa replied. "While we're reading files, my sister's out there somewhere. We have to confront this Snow Queen." "Believe me, we will once we actually get an idea of who we're dealing with," Kat tried to persuade her. "We have to be careful. She clearly seems to know you, when you know nothing about her. In this town, something like this would mean it's not an accident. Someone must've done something with some of your memories." "You think she took my memories?" Elsa asked her. "It's a big possibility that she did. If so, the question is why she did it. We need to find out what the hell she's up to." "I couldn't agree more," Damon interjected. Sometimes, he actually did agree with her. After all, they always seemed to think the same way. After a long few days or so, they figured out who she was, as well as where she was living. An ice cave in the woods. But Kat wasn't exactly ready to come after her yet. They needed a plan, since she was powerful. Possibly more powerful than Elsa and her ice magic. Elsa had learned control and to overcome her fear, but Kat didn't feel like that would be accomplishing much. Belle, without Rumple, decided that she'd fetch a magical hat. One that could strip a magical being of their powers. She thought it was in the ice cave, and she wanted to get it to use it to figure out where Ana was. She'd made a mistake a long time ago, and she wanted to fix it. Belle was inside the ice cave, when something began calling out to her by name. That's when, after a few minutes, she found something covered with a cloth. She uncovered it, only to reveal a mirror. One with her reflection talking to her. "I was hoping you'd find me," her reflection commented. "I'm surprised you were brave enough to come in here." "I had to," Belle said. "I have to find a way to help Ana." "Why? You never really cared much for her before." "That's not true," Belle replied. "Sure, it is. You chose that rock over her. You had to remember what happened to your mother, no matter what the cost." "I made a mistake," Belle admitted. "I didn't mean to..." "Ruin someone's life? It certainly wasn't your most heroic moment. Not that you've ever really been hero material." "No, please...Please stop," Belle pleaded. "Everyone sees you for what you really are, Belle. A pathetic coward. I mean, why do you think The Dark One chose you? You think it was love? He needed someone weak. Someone he could manipulate." "That's not true. He loves me. He gave me this," Belle replied, holding up The Dark One dagger." "You truly believe that's real?" "Deep down, you know what kind of best you're dealing with." Belle lowered the dagger in her hand. A moment later, Rumple came in, having found out where she'd gone. "Belle." He went to stand in front of her, seeing her looking into the enchanted mirror. "Belle. Look at me. Don't look in the mirror. Look at me. We have to leave," he tried to persuade her. Under the enchanted mirror's spell, she lunged at him with the dagger in hand, but he grabbed her arm to keep her from trying to hurt him with the dagger. "No!" she said. "You don't know what you're doing," he reasoned. "Please, let me go!" she yelled at him, as he made them disappear out of the cave and inside his shop. "It's okay," he assured her. "We're back in the shop. It's okay." "No, no!" she yelled at him. "It's okay," he tried to reason again. Finally, the spell over her from the mirror lifted, making her come back to her sense. She saw a cut on him from the dagger she'd caused, and dropped the dagger to the floor, before going to her knees on the floor. "I...I hurt you." He knelt in front of her. "I'm so sorry, Rumple," she apologized. "It's okay," he assured her. "When I found that mirror, something came over me, like a spell, and it spoke to me, and made me...made me believe all these horrible things, and it said to me that the dagger you gave me is a fake," she explained. He'd given it to her a while ago to keep it safe, and to keep him from doing awful things just in case, because he trusted her with it. "I can assure you that nothing that mirror said is true. It was imbued with the darkest of magic. I know you would never wrong me," he assured her. "I have wronged you. I've kept a terrible secret from you. I'm the reason that Ana's missing. I didn't want anyone to know until I could make things right and save Ana. But I couldn't. I failed. And all I managed to do was abuse the dagger and take advantage of you, my true love. I don't even know if I deserve to be with you anymore." "No, no, no. You were only doing what you thought was right," he replied. "You forgive me?" "Of course, I forgive you." A moment later they hugged. "Thank you for telling me everything," he said, as they hugged. "Thank you for understanding," she replied. "I never should have kept a secret from you. Especially, 'cause I know that you'd never keep one from me. I love you, Rumple." "And I love you, too," he replied. Later, he went back to the ice cave to confront the Snow Queen, Ingrid. "I'm afraid we have a problem, dearie. I caught a glimpse of your mirror today." "It's rather impressive, isn't it?" Ingrid replied, seated at her ice table. She got up though, as she said, "I had no idea she'd be so easy to turn." "Watch yourself," he warned her. "Now, I don't know exactly know when you intend to use this mirror, but you should know this. I won't allow you to hurt those I care about." "And I won't allow you to derail my plans, because you've suddenly gotten sentimental." "You only get one warning," he told her. "Which is more than you get. I can't make any promises over who may or who may not survive." "Well, now that I know what your plan is, we can have a real talk." He showed her that he had the hat that Belle had been looking for earlier. "Because I think you'd hate to be just another broidery on this hat." Meanwhile, Kat was with Elsa at the station, where Elsa was showing her a book she had on the desk. "The Snow Queen is your aunt?" Kat inquired, looking at it. "According to this Heraldry book I found in the library. Her name is Ingrid. I didn't even know my mother had any sisters. This book traces the lineage in Arendelle for generations. That's Gerda, my mother," Elsa explained, pointing to a picture of her. "And this is Helga, my other aunt." She pointed to her as well. "Well, I've been in this town long enough to know that almost everyone is related, so it's not as surprising as you might find," Kat commented. Just then, Belle came in. When she did, she explained to Elsa what she'd told Rumple. That she'd been keeping a secret. That she knew Ana, and that she had a chance to help her once, but she let her down. And that the Snow Queen captured her back in Arendelle a long time ago, but she didn't know where Ana was now. Then Belle continued, telling them about the enchanted mirror she had in her cave. That it was a part of a dark spell called Shattered Sight. "If she casts it, its magic will make everyone in Storybrooke turn on one another." "Great," Damon said sarcastically. "The entire town will destroy themselves," Kat figured. "And there'd be no one left," Belle added. Kat looked at Damon. She knew they had to do something about her before the spell was cast. She knew, after all, how dark and dangerous herself as well as Damon could be. Not to mention how evil Regina and Rumple's past selves had been. If their dark sides came out, there was a chance at least a few of them would kill each other. And she wasn't a 500-year-old vampiress anymore, nor a demoness. She wouldn't be any match for any of them, despite her active Traveler magic. A while later, they found a book with a spell. One that could make her powerless, which could give them time to figure out how to get rid of the mirror. Belle had translated it, since none of them could speak the language. It told them how to enact it. "Maybe without her powers, we could talk to her. We can find Ana. We can get some real answers," Elsa said. "Does your sister have magic?" Kat questioned, since she was curious. "No. Does anyone in your family have magic?" "I'm descended from Travelers. I didn't have actual active magic until I found a way to make it active, rather than just being able to body jump. I had to figure out a way to defend myself, since I was powerless for a while against this psychotic witch of sorts. Travelers to you would be sort of gypsies, but they changed to adapt to the times. I didn't know I could even have any magic, since my father stopped practicing when he married my mother. Nadia, my daughter, was the one that told me all of this. It was her way of trying to save me. She'd just found me after many many years of looking for me. My father tore her away from me right after she was born as punishment for having her out of wedlock. When Nadia got the answers she seeked, we reconnected, but I was dying. She wanted me to save myself, but I lost my hope that I could be saved. In the end, she did save me, but not exactly my life. When she died, I had nothing left. My mother was killed two years after Nadia was born. My father too, but I hated him too much to feel anything for him. Nadia was my only family left. Everyone else at the time...they all hated me or wanted me dead. I was different back then. Let's just say...most people that have known me for many years have abandoned me, even if they'll always love me, as I still do them. I can be a complicated person to love. I guess that's what made Rumple and Regina like me so much as friends. We think almost the same way." "I'm sorry," Elsa replied to the part about what had happened to her. She then added about those that had abandoned her, "It's hard when they look at you differently, isn't it?" "It can be, but I've learned to deal with it. Some people...they just misunderstand me. Or they do understand me, but I ruined everything with my actions. My need at the time for freedom, instead of being so afraid of the person that ruined my life. But I forgave said person a long time ago," she replied. "Enough of memory lane, though. Let's find Ingrid," Kat added, not wanting to talk about her past anymore. When they had found her, they didn't really get any answers, and it turned out that capturing her hadn't exactly worked. A few days later, they had learned that Ingrid had cast the spell, and that they only had a few hours to figure something out, before everyone in town would start tearing each other apart. And so, Regina went to warn Robin and his Merry Men, while Kat and Elsa headed to Rumple's shop, hoping there'd be a way to stop it. However, it appeared, according to Belle, that this type of spell was unstoppable. "The one thing I did find is there may be a way to undo the effects from anyone it touches," Belle told them. "That's wonderful," Elsa replied. "It seems that when somebody's been touched by the spell, that you can use them to undo it. With a strand of their hair, you can make some kind of counterspell. Like a vaccine," Belle informed them. "My sister. My aunt said she put me in that urn. I didn't believe her because Ana would never do that, unless she was under that spell. We have to get to her," Elsa replied. "But you still don't know where she is," Belle replied. "No, but you can help me find her with a locator spell," Elsa suggested. When Belle took a look, it appeared that there was mirror dust in Ana's necklace, which told them that she'd been under the spell before. "If we find Ana, she can save everyone," Elsa stated. "I'll round up the fairies. They can set up shop somewhere close and figure out how to make the counterspell," Belle suggested. "Thank you," Elsa replied with a smile. "Let's go find your sister," Kat stated. After they'd put a locator spell on the necklace, they were able to follow it all the way to the beach, which soon led them to a chest that washed onto the beach. Then they saw Ana come out of it with Kristoff, her soon-to-be husband. "Ana?" Elsa questioned. Then, a moment later, as she ran over said, "Ana!" "Elsa!" she said back. "Ana! I couldn't find you!" "I was looking for you!" Ana said back. "I put you in an urn!" "You missed your wedding!" Elsa said. "It's okay! We're here!" "But you're still young!" Elsa stated. "We were frozen!" Ana told her. "For 30 years, apparently," Kristoff interjected. "How did this happen?!" "How did you get here?!" After their excitement of being reunited ended, Ana noticed it. "My necklace. It was the wishing star!" Ana realized, realizing how they got there, and how they'd found each other at last. "This is an amazing miracle," Kristoff interceded. "But it is a cold miracle, and we're all wet, so..." "Yes. If we can get Ana back to the fairies right away, she might be able to stop the spell," Kat reminded Elsa and agreed with Kristoff. Even though she didn't know who he was. "Wait. There's something I have to do first," Elsa said, before hugging Ana. As they walked, heading for the fairies, they caught the two of them up to speed. "And you guys?" Ana questioned. "We'll be effected, so we have to hurry," Kat told her. When they got to where the fairies were supposed to be, they had all disappeared, so they knew they needed another plan. So, they headed to the station. Then, after Ana and Kristoff had a reunion with Charming, Kat asked what the plan was, hoping it was a good one. She knew she could probably do a protection spell of sorts, but she didn't think it would last long. Not if it got past the protection spell. This kind of spell she'd never seen before, so she wasn't sure if the magic she'd known from her kind of witches could stop or hold any of this off. "This is the plan," Snow told her, heading over to one of the station jail cells. "Ana and maybe Elsa are the only ones immune. The rest of us have to protect ourselves." "We won't be able to hurt anyone from in here," Charming added from the other cell. Kat took the keys and locked them in the cells. Then turned to look at Elsa and Ana. "You're on your own now. Ana, you're the immune one. Watch everyone here, and see if you can find a way to reverse this or maybe stop Ingrid. Before it gets here, we need to find a place to put ourselves. You don't want to be anywhere near us when our dark sides come out to play." Kat set the keys on the opposite desk that Kristoff was handcuffed to, before putting an arm around Damon's. "The library. There's a basement below it we can restrain ourselves in, away from everyone else," she told him. In a blur, they were gone, out of the station. Ana looked out the blinds to see how far away it was. "Looks like one more adventure together," Ana commented. Elsa went to take a look with her. "Here it comes," Snow stated. Meanwhile, Regina had just sealed her son in her office to keep him safe. She turned around to see Robin. "Where to now?" he asked her. "My vault. And you need to get as far away from it as possible. It's dangerous even being around each other now. We're moments away," she replied to him. "It's okay. Roland is locked away somewhere even I don't know," he assured her. "Henry is safe in there. I'll go and chain myself to a tree in a minute...Unless you want me to come with you." "No, no, no, no, no. I need to seal myself in that vault." "To keep people out?" "Oh, no. To keep me in." "Regina, I'm not afraid of you," he assured her. "But you really...really should be," she replied, backing away from him. Once in her vault, Regina sealed herself in her vault, and then waited for it to begin. In the meantime, everyone else was working on getting themselves sealed away or tied up, too. Once in the basement of the library, which looked more like a cave or tunnels, Kat put the chain cuffs on Damon, hoping that would be strong enough to keep him from getting free. After all, she knew a determined vampire could break almost anything if they were strong enough. She then went far enough that they wouldn't be able to touch each other, before putting chains on her own wrists and sealing herself in a spot. "Shouldn't we be more separated just in case?" he inquired of her. "Maybe, but this is the only safe place I can think of away from the others, and there aren't exactly any tombs or enough vaults to seal me inside, so this is our best option. Besides, I doubt we can hurt each other more than we already have in the past 145 plus years. Don't you think?" she replied. Damon, not knowing the town as well as she did, had to agree with her on that one. © 2025 Datherine100 |
