Summary: Set in Legacies S4 when her humanity was off, and they were trying to convince her to turn it back on. What if Freya brought Kat back from a prison world to help with Hope? What will happen?
______________________________________________________________________________________________________ It was a dismal night in New Orleans at the compound, as Hope sat at the table, having a conversation with what remained of her family. Rebekah, Kol, Freya, and Marcel whom Rebekah had married. "That trash can looks like a good spot," Hope said, emotionless, when she was told that he'd want her to choose where to put his ashes. Katherine walked inside from the open door, just as Hope made that comment about her father. "That is no way to talk about your father." Kat walked towards where Freya stood. "Thanks for the rescue." She then turned to look at Hope, as she commented to Freya, "She really does have her father's everything." "Who the hell are you?" Hope questioned. "I'm a legend. I survived your father's wrath when I escaped him. I also dearly loved your Uncle Elijah. Everything your father did, well, it changed me into who I eventually became as a vampire. When I was on my deathbed as a human because of the cure though, I forgave him. And no matter what he did, I always forgave Elijah. My name is Katherine," she explained and introduced to the youngest Mikaelson. "What are you bloody hell doing here?" the blonde finally asked, once she'd done the introduction for Hope. Kat looked at her. "Freya rescued me from a prison world so I can help your niece. Klaus and Elijah never told you this, but I know what it's like. The loss of a parent you were so devoted to, and the feeling of losing everyone around you. And despite popular belief, I know what it feels like to turn off your emotions, because you can't deal with the grief," she explained. "You've always despised me without actually knowing me, but Klaus turned me into a monster. When I was reunited with my daughter though, it made me want to be better. Now, I am. And I'm ready to help any way I can." "Well, I know I'm thankful to have you here. Even if Rebekah's not," Kol commented. Kat gave a smile. "You always were the kind one to me, apart from Elijah. Thank you." She glanced at Marcel, getting a sense of whether or not he'd be a threat towards her. And it seemed he wouldn't be. Then she walked towards Hope a few steps. "Hope, I know why you turned it off. You had to kill someone you love. But all this killing? You're no better than your father on his worst day. You need to tone it down," she tried to reason. "Why? Why should I listen to anything you have to say?" "I can name a few reasons. Your parents would be disappointed in you. They made the ultimate sacrifice so that you'd do better. Not worst. Another reason is because the more damage you do, the worst you'll feel when you turn it back on." "I don't need you to tell me what I'm doing wrong, or to remind me of everything," Hope shot back at her. "Clearly, you do, because you're just as stubborn, maybe more, than I was when a couple people that became my friends helped me turn it on, even when I didn't want it on. And I don't want you to follow the same path of destruction your father or myself were on for most of our lives." "I'm not either one of you. Nor do I even know you," Hope reminded her. Kat could see she was irritating her, so to keep from antagonizing her, since she knew better because of her moments she'd had with Klaus, she told her, "I'll let you think on it. I could use some time alone. If you need me, I'll probably be in the Quarter." Everyone watched, as Kat left the compound. Later that evening, her humanity finally came back on, so since all the others were helping Hope, Rebekah left. Although Katherine seemed to be a friend to Freya, Rebekah knew from the stories she'd heard how close she'd been to her elder brother, Elijah. She figured she owed him the decency of being there for her, if Katherine needed it. She couldn't begin to comprehend 500 years of loving the same vampire, but she could understand losing people. Especially, her siblings. That night, Kat was alone on a bench, trying to stay composed, but miserably failing. She still loved both Elijah and Damon. Losing them, plus Klaus also being dead, it broke her. She'd thought she'd gotten it all out the moment Freya had informed her of everything, but she realized that she hadn't. Elijah had always been there. Now, he'd never be there again for her. Without either of them, she was alone, broken, shattered, and lost. "Why'd you have to do that, Elijah? You could've at least tried to move on. Now, you've left me alone," she stated at nothing, as she cried by herself, figuring if anyone heard her, they wouldn't care. Besides, she figured he'd found peace, so he'd never hear this, but talking to anything, even empty air, was the best she could do right now. "I miss you. I wish you were here," she said, crossing her arms close to herself. "I love you, Elijah. I always will." Rebekah Mikaelson had been walking for a while in search of her, but finally spotted her in the middle of the Quarter seated on a bench, looking like she could probably use a friend. She recognized this area as the place she’d once upon a time killed some vampires to save, at the time, the pregnant wolf. She silently approached and sat by her. “You’re right. I’ve always despised you, even though I don’t know you. I always saw you as someone that was a threat to our family, because Elijah betrayed Nik for you, and the hatred you and Nik shared with each other. But I know, even now, that Elijah will always love you. Even in death. Both of you have always been masters at loving more than one person at a time. We’re all grieving in our own way, but you got past everyone else. You’re strong and resilient. You’ll get through this.” “Thank you, Rebekah, for trying, but you don’t understand. He was your brother. Even though Klaus always got in the way, we managed to have something. And he protected me. Even saved me many times from his and my enemies. I’ve never liked admitting it, but like I told you before, Klaus and I are the same. Without Elijah in the picture, I’m alone. And now that everyone else I love or even once loved are all dead, I can’t turn to Damon or Enzo. Elijah was special to me, but Damon was too, in his way. He hated me because I broke his heart, but he once loved me the most. He would’ve followed me to the ends of the earth. I thought your brother would kill him if he knew that I loved someone that wasn’t Elijah, so I broke his heart to protect him, knowing your brother was on his way to town.” Rebekah was surprised at her apparent honesty, and the will to tell her the truth probably no one else knew. “Well, for Elijah’s sake, even though Elijah’s not here anymore, you’ll always have a place at the compound.” “Thanks, but what about Marcel? I killed some of his vampires, and I fled before he could punish me for it. We’ve been enemies ever since.” “That’s what your look was earlier,” she stated. “I doubt Marcel will do anything to you as long as you’re a human, but if he does, he’ll have to answer to me. And the rest of us. I know it’s what Elijah would want, and if Nik was here, he’d do the same in Elijah’s honor.” “Thanks. It’s not like I have anywhere else to go anyways. I’m sure Alaric probably still hates me for everything I did as a vampire, so he’d never welcome me back to Mystic Falls. And I don’t feel like asking for Caroline’s help. She’ll always have a good heart, but I wouldn’t wish to put her in danger if people find out I’m back,” the human admitted. That night, Kat chose to stay at the compound as Rebekah had offered. Marcel hadn’t liked it much, but he hadn’t done anything to her, since he’d learned to do whatever she told him to do. Since she was staying there, she was able to help Hope, and everyone helped each other heal from their losses. © 2025 Datherine100 |
