First Snow

First Snow

A Poem by DaughterNature
"

I love snow!

"

First the wind,

Sighing, howling,

Gusting all around us,

Chilling us to the bone,

The fingers,

The ears and nose.

Then flurries,

A few flakes on our cheeks

As we walked,

They turned to gusts and flocks

Through the window,

Turned to snow on the walk back.

The frantic, insistent

Hissing of tiny ice balls

Through the not-yet-fallen leaves of the trees.

And looking out

Toward the mountain

Nothing but

White air on the horizon.

Turning to

Big healthy flakes

Swirling in the wind,

Covering the ground

Where there is no still-warm pavement,

The air an

Impermeable white.

A beautiful description of snow. Very poetic!

Such fluidity. Very nicely painted. I hate it passionately when it's below freezing outside, but it sure makes good stuff for poetry :)
