The tantrum

The tantrum

A Poem by David Broderick
"

Another song from months ago. Same applies to this one; it makes absolutley no sense as a poem. Sorry about that.

"

Give me, the benefit of your doubt,

I’m right enough

Give me, the benefit of your doubt

I’m smart enough

Listen to, the words

Falling from my mouth

Listen,

To what is right

No you never listen

You never listen to me

I’m the second

Never the first

I feel hunger

I feel thirst

For your attention

For you

No you never listen

You never listen to me

I’m the second

Never the first

I feel hunger

I feel thirst

For your attention

For you

Give me, the benefit of your doubt,

I’m right enough

Give me, the benefit of your doubt

I’m smart enough

Listen to, the words

Falling from my mouth

Listen,

To what is right

I can breathe, I can sing

I’m alive, I’m alive

I can crawl, I can run

I’m a man, I’m a man

I can breathe, I can sing

I’m alive, I’m alive

I can crawl, I can run

I’m a man, I’m a man

If it was up to me

I would smother you

Up to your neck

But leave your head

Above the surface

So I could hear

How great I am

I can breathe, I can sing

I’m alive, I’m alive

I can crawl, I can run

I’m a man, I’m a man

I can breathe, I can sing

I’m alive, I’m alive

I can crawl, I can run

I’m a man, I’m a man

No you never listen

You never listen to me

I’m the second

Never the first

I feel hunger

I feel thirst

For your attention

For you

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Am I thick, in the head?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Are you, even listening?

Give me attention

That’s an order

Give me attention

That’s an order

I am livid, I am violent

I’m alive, I’m alive

I can hate, I cause pain

I’m a man, I’m a man

Are you, even listening?

You nailed this one, in my opinion. This is exactly what a child feels like when he/she is misunderstood. I remember when I was a little kid my thoughts and opinions were deaf to my parent's ears. I'm glad I grew up. They can't ignore me now. :)
