Letter to the Man

Letter to the Man

A Poem by David Smothers

Everyone's a critic
Yep you're one too
The people that get me
Are nothing like you

The folks that work hard
Plowing the field during the day
In the company of these friends
Is where I'm gonna stay

I'm not stuck with the man in your mirror
I see mine and like him
I'm not perfect but that's ok
I'm not afraid to try again anyway

Didn't gum a silver spoon
Nothing served on a platter
Had to struggle on each step
To ascend on this ladder

I'm familiar with failure
And successes too
Made sure to stay humble
Not arrogant like you

Maybe you think I'm flip or curt
I know I'm not a waste of space
That's my two cents
Don't spend it all in one place.

ps, you're pants go on the same way as mine.
