Dark Angels

Dark Angels

A Poem by David Lewis Paget

Their shadows stir and mutter

But too low for you to hear,

They often lapse in silence, when

A group of you appear,

They hunch down in their hoodies

Or they mix with the elite,

It’s hard to tell the goodies

From Dark Angels in the street!

They populate street corners

Sell their poisons down the line,

They wait for you in alleyways,

Give in, and you’ll be fine,

Their friends are dressed in uniforms

With batons, on patrol,

But ready cash backhanders see them

Under their control!

They have no moral compass

And in that, they’re not alone,

They sit up in the boardrooms

Hold the mortgage of your home,

They never pay their taxes

But they lecture you on yours,

And hold the nation’s flag aloft

As soldiers fight their wars!

They’re chauffered in their limousines

Avoid the ghetto slums,

But help their fellow henchmen

By supplying them with guns,

They hold a friendly congressman

A captive to their will,

And promise fair elections

If he’ll pass a certain bill.

They’re there electing Judges

Who consolidate their power,

For money is the way they bring

Your poverty to flower,

While barristers distort the law

On technicalities,

They free the dire offender,

Bring the victim to his knees.

They’re out there in the daylight

And they’re hidden in the night,

They’re constantly recruiting

Just to feed their appetite,

They revel in corruption and

Rely upon our greed,

The Devil and his minions,

Dark Angels of his seed!

Sadly a lot of people are able to do anything for "god money" :(
I think there's a great society satire (at least a satire about a part of it) here :)
The poem is amazing, technically speaking, the sounds in the verses really surprised me, great rhymes, and I could even "sing" it in my head. Great job =D

it';s true that those in authority abuse their power and become corrupt and greedy so they lose their conscience and allow themselves to be bought by the dregs of society. this was an eye opener.

One of the many plans the delegates of darkness have for what remains of our spiritual world. Eye opening stuff. Thanks for sharing.

This is so poignant right now in history, what a powerful statement you are making here with this piece. I could not agree more and stand screaming bravo for someone to put such eloquent words to the tragedy of society today.

Such a clever, and keen eye... you're one of heavens angels, one who has feelers. One who I feel at home with when I read this clairvoyant thoughts.

No, people, not paranoid, clairvoyant. I know when it's this or that. This is clear, keen, and wisdom. You're a wise soul, as we spoke in private, about our history, I can only imagine now, where you walked, and I see so much more, but I will private you some day what I saw...

Lovely write dear poet, shall soon read more more and more, thank you.
The ending is splendid!!!

This is remarkable. You sure hit the nail on the head in this one. It's not often I read a poem about politics that's so exact and cunningly expressed. I thought that maybe politics were more 'honest' in other countries around the world, but perhaps i'm wrong... I very much enjoyed this- fantastic write, David.

Wonderfully written. Yet, I would go one step further and say the true evil is the apathy and banality that allow the dark angels to thrive and multiply.

Politics in Australia must not be too different from those in the States...
