Bekaa

A Story by Dayran

A squirrel at the door

"

I have never visited the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon but in viewing it on the internet some years ago … I got the view of a hilly landscape … dotted with trees … with an azure sky above … adding to its Mediterranean charm. The homes … built of concrete and stone … blend into the landscape … like a village in a dream. Donkey carts … horses … and the grazing sheep … goats … and bovine … make for a restful and idyllic sight. Today amidst the war rubble ... the Bekaa ... reflects the pain of too much exposure ... of its delicate personality ... and tosses away its old charms like the garbage that litters its streets.

I knew I shouldn't have allowed it … letting the mind idle on suggestions that is. But suddenly I was thinking about the way the Assyrians … viewed life as a soul … that supports about 30 living individuals around the world … at the same time. Obviously they are of many different age groups … genders … culture … beliefs … and knowledge. It may even be true to say that … each life lives in a different dimension … of the soul. But put together … they represent to each individual in the soul's experience … a perception of the world … in their own way.

The Roman ruins in the Bekaa … must remind the inhabitants there … of a world of empires … beyond their little hamlets and villages. And the way that it might remind the Lebanese … of the history of man … that has passed through its valleys … each promising the knowledge of God and man … and the origin of the fervor … for man to think that … he alone … will grow to govern the many lives of the soul … as the King within … of the realm of the spirit. Its a spirit that … first came to encounter the powerful sexual energies … the organs … and the ritual of reproduction … that brought a life of the soul into the world.

The ancient Gods of the region … such as Ahura Mazda … Ahriman … and Pazuzu … continue to occupy our attention … through their relation to the sexual energies. The statue of Pazuzu … of an angel with prick erect ... with the look of pain on his face … peers at us still … as a reminder of a scene from the 60s movie … The Exorcist. How that produced so many other suggestions of horrors in the night … of sleepless nightmares … and dark brooding images of forms that come and go quietly in our thoughts.

It points to how modern civilization … may have caused to diminish a whole way of life of people … who had very open sexual attitudes … but are today … brought into civil organization of societies … that deny such open perceptions … in everyday life. Some of that carries into the Malay society here … where colonial stories … report on the kindness of the Malays … who took pity … on serving British administrators … who are bachelors … and brought their daughters to live with them as companions.

In a sense … its the casual attitudes of natives … as regards the sexual impulse … the way that was illustrated by foreign sailors … visiting the shores of Fiji … and Polynesia … and the hospitality they enjoyed there. But the impulse … for such openness … despite its suppressed nature … finds its odd application in daily relations between man and woman … where the mere companionship of a man … produces celt images … of the prick outside the door of the woman's yoni … in the woman's mind. Is it a primordial experience of the woman's body … primed for reproduction?

In Indonesia recently … a woman was lashed in public … as punishment for being alone with a man … in a hotel room. Elsewhere … the sweet tantalizing appeal of the Swedes … and their openness about the sexual experience … is a favorite … mind poster … of sexy girls. But what is it … that poses with ghosts … spirits … and the evil eye of wants that cannot be satisfied? Have we not learnt to deal with that? Do we stifle it with civil notions of respect and honor … and are yet unable to bring to it our skills … for managing the matter … with equanimity?

Old age brings back the experience of the Assyrian in some ways … and the experience of menopause plays havoc on the mind … with regards to visiting pricks … at the door of passing girls in my neighborhood. But I'm applying myself to dealing with it … by diverting my thoughts to a … squirrel at the door of his home … in a tree … in the woods. I had thought women generally managed it that way … with nursery tales about animals. On my private moments … I keep a colorful clay model of a cockerel in my room.

Has it helped? Only when a man … can get past his anima instincts of the fertility rituals … and view women … as equals in his practice of reason and mind. I have a ' sister there ' relative … who just popped up recently … beyond the spiritual encounter with ' R ' … ( see ' R ' ). I lend her my cockerel … as she communicates with me … on issues … and I find in myself an admiration for the way she expresses herself … with reason. No doubt that was a development … since my … ' sister here ' … began to feature again in my life.

And from here … I find myself approaching the door of the family … in which I grew up with … 5 brothers … and 2 sisters. Somehow we managed our relations … without any unusual transfers … or contorted impulses … of the sexual natures … that we were growing into. In the Bekaa Valley … where they may have suppressed their sexual openness … is it possible to figure how they managed their previous experience? Did they name their landscape with sexual innuendos … like … ' True love peak ' … ' Prickly forest ' … ' Yoni streams ' … and ' Lavender body field?' Do teens put up posters of girls in a bikini? Do women get … ' yakky ' … to help avoid the experience?

It is the early experience of all man … with regards to their sexual energies. Today we suppress … and distort them … instead of facing it again … and channeling it in new ways. I ran into a girl … yesterday with pink and rosy cheeks … and I didn't experience the issue of runaway pricks. I seem to recall … a primer on how young girls … in Elizabethan England were taught to beautify themselves … perhaps in ways of dealing with runaway thoughts. No doubt the man can also help with the issue in some way.
