Meet Borg

Borg is a man of impulse. He's always prepared to get into anything … try it once … or venture into anything new. He tends to be fidgety … with eyes that are constantly searching. He is however always full of enthusiasm for life … makes no commitment … and bores easily of issues that he has encountered before. Borg is a personality … a person would meet … at the point where … the start and the end of all thought … meets. He is the epitome of the sensation of … all possibilities. He exists in all of us … and while many of us may have regulated his personality … with practice … we do still run into a living specimen … from time to time.

Borg is a fictitious name I took from the word … bourgeoisie. The dictionary defines the word … as referring to someone from the middle class … but in meeting Borg … a person gets the impression … that he's from the upper classes. It'll explain the quaint … Russian revolution … from the previous century … and why they may have changed their minds about it … in recent times. Borg … incidentally would hate the working class … and think that man was made for a higher purpose … than menial work.

But at the point of all possibilities … Borg is a living paradox. He combines an experience of knowing … and not knowing … seamlessly … as if they were one and the same. He's the initiative in the creation process … that never tires of its play … of creation and destruction … and may well account for the cyclical nature of creation … as we know it. The Buddhist may be inclined to view Borg … as the wheel of Samsara … that which goes around in circles forever … recycling everything that we do in different ways … so as to experience things … differently.

To be a Borg … is like being at a … all you can eat buffet … and finding that you have overloaded your plate … with more food than you could possibly eat. But his regret is only revealed … in his temptation … as to whether … he missed anything nice … at the buffet table. But if Borg … ever got an opportunity to train himself for purpose … we'll find that he a veritable … man of all seasons … someone who brings an equal concern for all issues in life … in an order and organization … that is stable. As strange as it may be … Borg … is the emerging definition of the social man … in these times.

When I first encountered Borg … in my reviews of my nature as man .. I discovered a huge amount of concern … surrounding him … as efforts to train him for purpose. Obviously Borg … had intimated some willingness to do so as well … but he gets so easily bored … with promises … and efforts that fall short of achievement. He was however … taken up with ideas of virtue … and was a strong champion of the underdog. In his position … at the point of all possibilities … it must have appeared to him that … every man is entitled to the good life … and is his right.

But sadly … for Borg … he is less informed about how each and every man in the world … would come to achieve his right to the full. He might blink at my comment … and give the impression that … it should be so … but short of magic … he will not be able to figure how that might be accomplished. What about work Borg? In a free enterprise system? Let each man apply themselves … to the achievement of his dream. But that may be one too many pre-requisites for its achievement … by Borg's standards.

Peering out from the windows of the point of all possibilities … Borg is first filled with love … at the incredible plan of God … for all man. Then its the beauty and grace of the plan … in a profound statement of its possibilities. Thereafter … thereafter Borg … might figure that the earth is not too suitable for the full achievement of God's plan. And he stores it away … eats his hamburger for lunch … and goes back to the carpentry job … at the housing site. He would need to give it more thought … he would say. Perhaps God himself … would come some day … and make it all happen.

' But why did he make me believe all these about life?' Its a question he asked me … the first time I met him … in a place of hidden anger … and subtle rage... beyond the playpen of the child. I had then looked around the place we were at … and discovered numerous dismissals and denials of what Borg represented … in a man's personality. I didn't have the heart to do the same … and that began a curious relationship … I've been having for 40 years.

My impulse was to ask … ' Where on earth did this guy come from?' But I'm still searching. He gives every indication of having grown weary … the challenges … the work … life … and promises. ' Isn't all these about achieving something?' … is the look on his face … when I confront him on issues. My studies brought him some comfort … about life's purpose … and despite his skepticism … brought something in the manner of acceptance … to my suggestion … that man ought to achieve these things for himself.

My concerns about my pre-occupations with Borg … and its impact on my survival … has been a matter of great alarm … regarding my attitude. But the point that makes a Borg real … is not merely the issues about life … but life and survival put together. I figure its the future of man … as we try to make sense of ourselves and our lives. Its going to take more than me to make a difference … but a social transformation … taking place from generation to generation … may do it. Its a possibility … and its better than the one that merely dismisses the issue … and buries its head in the sand.

Its been my opportunity to discover that … Borg is about life … and all else is a cold heartless death … that man subjects himself to … purely in the name of survival. Is man … beyond this century .. casting aside his anima origins … to take to the humanizing influence of our lives? It doesn't feel disagreeable … but it would be nice .. if every one would pull together … and not make one concerned individual … a scarecrow in society. Well … that's Borg … he kind of grows on a person.
