A slave

A slave

A Poem by Deacon Kane
"

This poem is written in the abstract and links together many different images and ideas around one central theme. It is a piece about the contracts we make with ourselves.

"

A Slave

A slave to my innermost desires

cuz I desire words,

I hunger,

I press my needs,

I stoked the fire and formed the torrent,

now I speak in unholy tongues,

I reach for the pinnacle,

random images flashing like subliminal thoughts,

outside my kind

and I push,

I poke,

I prod,

I test the edge

and find my humanity in past hopes,

unfulfilled wishes

and these lies I tell about her eyes,

I keep a record,

don’t tell my mind,

a record of her sighs,

it seems blasphemous

but I waste no words in prayer,

I lay here and tell the skies,

I waste no words in prayer,

I don’t dwell on those innermost desires

while on and on my quill scratches

leaving tattoos across my lines.

My words father like a dagger quick,

like the rain,

cold and they wash over me.
