An avalanche of words

An avalanche of words

A Poem by Deacon Kane
"

This poem is a sad piece written about heartbreak and the pain that results from it. I think there are quite a few people who will relate to its content.

"

An avalanche of words

I have made much of love,

written sonnets to hardened hearts

now when I am older I have but bitterness

with which to reply,
love is dead,

she tried to comfort but I should have said,

that words come easily to wicked lips.

I have made much of love

now I wither in this stark winter

and bury my love beneath an avalanche of words

so my pen becomes my sword and we wage battle

or is it a holocaust of the spirit?

An avalanche then,

my humility and comfort at an end

but perhaps someday forgiveness will be hers

for the things we once pledged our minds and hearts to,

but such hope is best saved for calmer days.

I can and do relate to most of what is written here, particularly :
"my pen becomes my sword and we wage battle
or is it a holocaust of the spirit?"
- I love those lines and it describes perfectly the behavior patterns and the mind set of what happens when a heart is broken. I write away the angst, using it as a creative yet cathartic outlet. It helps sometimes. I liked what you did with this poem, giving the reader something to consider :) Justine
