The Desk

The Desk

A Poem by Chris Rampersad
"

Making a choice

"

I sit here behind this desk,

I've worked so hard to earn this desk,

I gave so much to get this desk,

My son's first steps I have missed,

To hear his first words,

My ungranted wish,

"Where is Daddy?" They heard him say

"Is Daddy at work again today?"

My love she sits and wait for me,

For the day I would be free,

With tears in her eyes she silently wait,

And when I see her,

My heart...It just breaks,

So now I sit behind this desk,

Thinking what its done for me,

This desk has given me all I want,

And denied me all I need,

No more poblems financially,

For the price of losing my family,

I know not which one you'd choose,

But I'm not going to miss my son's first day of school.

This is true for so many working men, like the desk doesn't even have to be an office job, u can mean the same for many people. It's brilliant and say so much about what happens in today's society. :)
