bruised cheeks

bruised cheeks

A Poem by DecentlyOkayWriter

a hushed whisper
you said something you shouldn't have
bruised cheeks and regret

hands shaky, face wet
metaphorical forgiveness
you're lying, aren't you?

a smokey silhouette
terror feels like something
but it's been forgotten

how sweet

Abuse seems to the topic of the day. Wives around here used to tell their husbands the story of Frankie Silver to keep them straight. But they hung poor Frankie from an old oak tree in downtown Morganton, NC after the trial. I think maybe today she might have got off for suffering abuse for so long and then just snapped one day after a beating. But she cut up the body with or without help and they never found all of him. Cringeworthy stuff but then...so is abuse and rape.

There's underlying sadness in this and clear signs of abuse. To infer is often more powerful than coming right out and saying it.

No nonsense in this.

Nice job.
