Don’t Let It Grow Cold

Don’t Let It Grow Cold

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

I’ve been etching memories
In the frost on window panes.
I keep on recalling
The ardor of warmer days.

Sat by the ocean,
Lulled to sleep by lapping waves....
In tender ‘memberance,
I tend to hide away.

Please, don’t let it grow cold.

Don’t let it grow cold.

Passion strikes so hot -
An infatuated haze.
What remains after
Lust’s initiate embrace?

Tangled limbs do tell a tale,
But none so graceful as your face.
I fear that love eternal
May still freeze, crack, and fall away.

Please, don’t let it grow cold.

Don’t let it grow cold.

Stoke the embers.
Let the fires reignite.
Simmering cinders
Start to burn with fervent light.
The heat may take us,
But at least we have tonight.
Feel it deep inside,
Love’s passion kindled bright.

Please, don’t let it grow cold.

Don’t let it grow cold.

nice one .. the repetition works great for me! its work to keep the fires burning and the cold at bay .. passion of youth replaced by frenzied bustle to make ends meet .. to "get ahead" .. and the light fades .. for waaaaaaaaay to many it goes out .. and two people suddenly look at each other with cold in their eyes and admit they don't even know each other any more .. we have to do the work .. its worth it for most says i! great write .. universal theme and very relatable.

Hello Dennis from Michigan and the poem dig deep into the reader's mind.
"Please, don’t let it grow cold.
Don’t let it grow cold."
I understand the above lines. With old age. My emotions are dying. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

I've etched many a memory in the frost of window panes. I like how they dissolve, then you still see a faint resemblance of them as the temperature rises. The repetition of the two lines carried well throughout the poem, rekindling some fires for this reader. You brought nature to dance in the light of love. Thank you for the romantic read, Dennis!
