Paramnesia Amor

Paramnesia Amor

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

I really need to stop writing love songs...So I guess I need to fall in love...again

"
Tammy Turner was the first girl that I saw
And we did see each other for oh-so long.
Love for us was so elementary
With hearts so happy and kisses in glee.
Somehow though it all went south
With rumors spread by wicked word of mouth.
I remember the day that we ended
With smiles fixed and hearts not mended.

I would love to fall in love
Again.

Someone give me butterflies.
And fly me to the sky.
We’ll reach the sun with hearts of fire.
To such heights we can aspire
If the past we can deny.

I’m going to need someone by my side
Soon
Or else I’ll cry and die.

Rosie Reynolds was the one who stopped my will.
Guilty murderer-my heart did she kill.
Love for us was always so unspoken
With hands for touching and sheets for clutching.
Somewhere then it faded out
At least for her, but I was still so devout.
I remember the day that I heard about it.
I hate to admit the knives of pain that her ring did emit.

I’m going to need someone by my side
Soon
Or else I’ll cry and die.

I remember Susan and Jodie,
Who each I dated for two weeks.
I broke up with Megan and MiMi,
Who just smoked too much weed for me.
Then, Daina Trimble and Sammy Sung
Told Dawna Johnson that I was well hung.
I can’t forget Jessie, Julie, and Jennifer-
Dated each and all of them together.

And I’m sorry to say,
But I haven’t seen such a situation in so long
In far too long.
And I would love to fall in love again.

Someone give me butterflies.
And fly me to the sky.
We’ll reach the sun with hearts of fire.
To such heights we can aspire
If the past we can deny.
I would love to fall in love.
Someone give me butterflies.
And fly me to the sky.
We’ll reach the sun with hearts of fire.
To such heights we can aspire
If the past we can deny.

I want something inevitable.
I want a new Juliet.
Hang out beneath the moon, the stars.
Meet her in a cold truck bed.
I could go back to dragon-hearted
Or once again be the White Knight.
Fight hard against castles of cards.
Whatever might just make one spark ignite.

I would love to fall in love
Again.

Author's Note

Dennis Shanaberg
I've been writing too many "love/I'm-an-angst-ridden-adolescent" songs lately. And here's another one. haha
If you've got any ideas for anything else I can write, go for it. Please, let me know.
The names are purely fictional...if you couldn't tell. But the relationships are more or less truth, at least in the way that we writer's do.
The last stanza is full of allusions that you may not recognize, for they are symbols and imagery from previous songs of mine.
Here ends this unnecessary addendum. Let me know what you think.

I really enjoyed reading this poem/love song. I have to agree with Coyote Poetry; unfortunately, we have to let down or be let down by many people to find "the one!" I for one am still looking. Good luck in your search for bliss. This was powerfully and emotionally well written. I felt the writer's pain and his desire was clear. Well done!!

I like reading your "love/I'm-an-angst-ridden-adolescent" songs, you do them so well. And this is yet another one to add to the collection. This is a very sweet poem. It made me smile from beginning to end.

" Someone give me butterflies.
And fly me to the sky.
We’ll reach the sun with hearts of fire.
To such heights we can aspire"

Those lines are just so truthful and honest and that is what I like about this poem.

wow, i l enjoyed this, reminds me of a player in action, much like myself.
not really, but its brilliantly done and who wouldnt want to
be in love in such ways, to be able to search through so many hearts
to find the one that's perfect, this is romantic pandemonium
you did an awsome job, quite entertaining concept

I like it.
Oh and there is no such thing as too many "love.... songs"

I do think the flow was somewhat choppy, wasnt as smooth as I'd like. The feeling is well understood, as we all want to find someone to Truly love.
Good job

Life is very fair. In time the greater loves will come till one day we realize we found paradise. The one we want forever and a day. I like the poem. Emotion is the rare gift we have that will always be there for us when needed. The bad part of life it is trial and error. We must fall down many times to understand true love and friendship. A excellent poem. You made me think again.
