Midnight Tonight

Midnight Tonight

A Poem by Desert Knave
"

A little darkness

"
Midnight tonight
Will be the last gasp
As my mind has lost
Its very grasp

Tonight the rest of me
Joins the best of me
Such is my destiny

Midnight shall toll
For me but once more
It's time for me
To walk through that door

Tonight the rest of me
Joins the best of me
I await breathlessly

Midnight tonight
I'll take my last breath
And I'll get to taste
The kiss of death

Some people speak of death as though it's drawing near, either by sickness or by self....you refer to midnight as your time to leave this earth...it seem by the fact that you have lost your mind, your memory and soon you will no longer have to suffer...there is definite anticipation here and then the finale....
well written and sad...I know personally many who died of that disease.....the repetition is well done

I had my triple bypass surgery on Friday the 13th two years ago.
I really like the chorus in this...and how each last line changes. And the ending...
a downturn that seems an upturn for the speaker.
nicely done Jim.
