Shattered Beauty

Shattered Beauty

A Poem by Destinee
"

I caught my reflection and a new wave of tears escaped.

"

I held it in my hands.

For a moment,

Oh, for a moment

I was happy.

Looking in the mirror

I watched, eyes wide, as

Warm honey flowed through

My veins and flushed my face.

So full of life, so worthy of your love.

Emerald gems held my gaze

Each fringed by the darkest lashes.

Skin as smooth as satin.

Hair like the cascading waterfalls.

So entrapped was I,

I didn’t hear your footfalls

Warning me of your entrance.

In my shock I dropped it,

That which made me beautiful.

Desperate, I reached for it

But I was too late

It lay on the floor

Shattered into

A million beautiful little pieces

You picked me up off the floor

Dried my eyes and pulled me to you.

You had never held me that closely

And my heart was full of love

But out of the corner of my eye,

I caught my reflection,

And a new wave of tears escaped.
