The Creature Inside

The Creature Inside

A Poem by Odette

Do you actually ever really consider

That under her frown she might be a grinner?

There's a creature inside, pulling on strings

Tightening the ropes connected to wings.

She clutches her stomach, curses and shouts;

"Leave me alone, you almighty grouch!"

The creature, ears closed, cackles and stomps

Finding new strings he strengthens his stomp.

Her heart it sinks lower, much deeper than before,

And soon her smile fades, even she saw

The light from her eyes quietly dimming,

But the creature stomped on, proud to be winning.
