Missy Lah!

The word "lah" is a common expression here in Singapore. As I am working as a nurse, I see how my colleagues go the extra mile for our patients and it inspired me to write this.

Many may not have the eyes to see it, but, I do. 
I see how they struggled and cared for you. 
How the hungry “ego” of syringes hurt like a saw, 
How the prideful “accent” drools on them - raw… 
As every shift, call and pager turns their lives around…. 
It has always been worth it for your life - the profound. 

Many may not have the heart to feel it, but I do. 
I feel how compassion and love for strangers can be true. 
How a touch can melt anxiety better, than midazolam combo set. 
How those thrombosed legs are ignored for a loose instrument!
As every waking day, the weak will only falter, so they don’t. 
They could have given up, far earlier nor sooner, but they won’t. 

Many may not have the mind to understand it, but I do. 
I know it takes more courage than to know it all too. 
How to stand firm and sometimes lose it all together.
How to pretend you’re not broken and still do better.
As keeping a pulse, giving a breath,
and mending a heart.. 
Can bring forth more life to those who have served the art. 

They only see what they want to see,
only listen to what they want to hear…. 
But I believe there is far greater glory,
than all the protocols and standards here. 
The unseen tears, doesn’t exist to be recognized, 
but at least justified. 

And amidst it all, at the end of the day…. 
It wasn’t all that bad anyway…. 
For the road they have chosen is rare. 
It’s a life only few share… 
And despite the noises, all the complaints! 
I still feel insanely proud… to be one of them!
