Faithful Brother

Faithful Brother

A Poem by T. N. Hodges

Faithful brother
of mine,
I know your heart;
Born in this forest
with a shy hat.

I hope you can find
your ideal condition.
You earn permissions
to bury our dogs
and hold the pistol.
I hope my voice
is one of grace,
and not of green-eyed want.
Your laudable nature
prominent.

And when
Atlas became unstable,
his hour of need
meant your time to gleam
in my eyes.
In a place
of true strain.

Even though
the boys have sprouted,
We've yet to plant.
Subtle themes will lead
to a vital crown,
and harvest will yield
to you a generation.

I desire, that
you invoke
your huge love unto this place
And stay naive
to a room of heartache;
To grief and steady pangs.
