I Left My Heart on the Ground

I Left My Heart on the Ground

A Poem by Dindella

Empty space, so just let me be.
Let my fear consume me.
Let me fall.
It doesn’t matter at all.
Barely notice me as you pass me by,
In this world where we are all meant to die.

Why would you stay?
When everyone has left?
Just let me seep and decay,
As that is what I do best.

An old poem that somehow managed to survive the basement flood (that destroyed all my old works) by being under my bed at the time. I wrote this sometime during high school back when my depression was at one of its worsts so far in my life. While I normally don't explain my poetry, since I want you to come up with your own, I will explain that in this case I hated myself so much I was internally angry as to why anyone would ever find me worth the trouble. While I would never intentionally be cruel or intentionally chase away my friends, I wanted more then anything in the world for them to abandon me. Since graduation, back in 2012, my depression has not been this aggressive and I've come a long way. I've still a lot of trials to go and I am not free, but I'm finding myself and I'm learning a lot.
