Monsters

Monsters

A Poem by Breezy
"

This is a judgement poem told from the perspective of the judged.

"

Our Lithium hearts pump Mercury blood
through Gold carotid arteries and vena cavas.
Our Titanium skin shines in the moonlight like
a wolf’s eye as we clutch sandstone with Iron claws.
It is in the night we must dwell, free from persecution.

We hide beneath the ruins of ancient
cities with stone as our sustenance. We must hide
when the humans come to excavate
our homes"like all living creatures,
we fear death.

The humans’ bullets are made of Cobalt. A
deadly metal. It is toxic to us like our blood
is to them. They"the humans"gun us down
when they spot our ogre-like appearances.

Monsters. Hellish creatures from the Devil’s army.

That is what we are to them.

Here is what they don’t understand: we
were born from the Earth so that we may curb the effects
of natural disasters and dampen Mother Nature’s
wrath. And still they wonder why the Earth
trembles and knocks down their homes.

Monsters. Does our maintaining Earth’s balance
provide us this label? Or is it the difference in
anatomy? The humans persecute us based
on their definition of “monster.” But what is a monster really?
