Excuses

Excuses

A Poem by Divenire

I've been alone with the bottle

and I've drank you in and out of my mind
Some nights I'd wish you'd stay with me
Some nights I'd rather be left behind

Now the walls are begging to come closer
closer and closer
this f*****g cell is all that reminds me
that someone's been screwed over

But please excuse me if I happen to throw the blame in one direction
it's the ghost that moves through me
and it's become my protection

And I'm thinking about saying sorry
for the things I can't get straight
but before I drink out my apology
I must remember why you're here in the first place
I must remember why you're here.

I've been alone with your ghost
and every moment that I've lost

I've been at home with a stranger
or someone that I forgot

I've been dealing with the devil
but I've got nothing left to trade

I've been at the bottom of the bottle
and I've got my reasons to stay.
