CAPE CONRAN

CAPE CONRAN

A Poem by Harmony-Lee

The cool breeze flows through,
Caressing me awake as it slides across my skin.
The moist dewy air slightly oceanic,
The streams of gold dapple the green foliage,
Blue (like sapphires) fill the gaps of the canopy.
Waves crash like thunder against the shore,
Before rolling calmly, gently in retreat.
A kookaburra laughs from above
As a new day begins.
An orchestra of singing fills the air
As birds flutter in graceful loops.
The Goanna creeps past, belly low, through the rustling dry leaves
And the rhythmic thump of the wallaby
As it sneaks between the trunks.
A wiggly line left behind in the sand,
As the red belly slithers over the path.
And the needle like spikes raise to the sky
As the Echidna protects itself from the children's curiosity.
Swimming, riding, climbing and exploring, we return each year,
As the sky turns from blue, to pink, to black.
Another day ends at Cape Conran.
