It Doesn't Stop There

A little poem for my beautiful wife who is carrying our first child. A fierce woman who does everything she sets her mind to, I certainly never dare to get in her way.

You'll be a mother, but it doesn't stop there. 

You can sing, you can dance, and you're trained to cut hair. 

Though I don't let you near it, which probably ain't fair,

You'll be a mother but it doesn't stop there.

You'll be a mummy, but please rest assured,

You'll still be a writer, a student, an entrepreneur,

Ever so childish, but yet so mature,

You'll be a mummy, but please rest assured. 

You'll be a mamma, but that's not the end,

You'll still be my wife, my lover, my favourite best friend,

Just with a child, like nature intends,

You'll be a mamma, but that's not the end.

You'll be a mum, but it's just something new,

I'll still be me, and you'll still be you,

She will be both, and a mum one day too,

You'll be a mum, but it's still just you.

Congrats on the baby coming, and the lover's well-penned poem. I especially smile at the thought of not letting the trained hairdresser touch your hair. A counterpoint to my own circumstances, of letting the former corporate exec shorn my scalp. I like to think it leaves plenty of other fellows safe and secure from her need to cut heads.
