Very Common Phrases

Very Common Phrases

A Poem by Désiré Desrosiers
"

Phrases spoken from adult to kid. What I noticed and still notice, since as long as I can remember.

"

“You’re so smart!”

“You have so much potential!”

I wonder…

how many times you’ve said that phrase.

Not only to me,

but also to my peers...

Is this for better relations?

With me and my parents?

Is this some sort of pressure?

“You will change the world!”

Are you out of your mind?

A miserable guy like me.

What could I possibly change?

I wonder who else you told this to…

Our population is huge.

Why should I make a change?

But it’s not like I can in the first place…

It reminds me of the line,

“You’re not fat!”

or

“You’re so skinny!”

You’re joking right?

I’m a joke anyways,

all of these phrases are nonsense.

What’s the point of saying these?

To be nice?

Or perhaps…

they take pity in me.
