Driving Lessons

A Poem by David Lindhout
"

"
(For Hettie)

You tried to teach me how to drive.
Your unconditional love
And your refusal to find even a single fault in me
Kept you from correcting any mistakes I made.

I crashed a million times.
Over and over.
Twisted metal,
Flames,
A slew of victims in my wake.

You brushed it off and told me I was doing great.
My heart swelled with pride.
I miss you so much.
