The Touch of DespairA Poem by D. MujeebOnce I came across a river quite old, not known to many, of pure white gold. Puzzled, I tried to find a way to pass when Friendship appeared and made a
bridge of grass. It held my
hand and so we
moved on…
One step on the grass and I saw above fluttering its wings, proud cruel Love. It came down at me and started walking
ahead, Friendship sighed, bowing down its head. It placed its
hand on my back and so we
moved on…
Two steps later I saw with my
unfortunate eyes Love holding hands with Betrayal and
Lies. My sundered heart made me freeze in pain until Friendship pulled me back to the
same old lane It clasped my
arm tight and so we
moved on…
Three steps forward and the grass
started to burn when hot red Anger made me want to turn. It offered me Revenge which I would have
taken if Friendship, in that moment, left me
forsaken But it patted
my shoulder soft and so we
moved on…
Four steps and lying in my way was
Sorrow, I sat down beside it thinking of
tomorrow. As none I could see, my eyes made the
grass wet but Friendship sitting beside me told me
not to fret It pulled me
up brave and strong and so we
moved on…
Five more steps and I ran into Despair it touched my heart and then I did not
care Friendship tried to get through with all
the force it had but soon came Death looking quite glad Clutching the
grey grass, my old companion cried but I had
moved on… November
