Flight After The Fall

Flight After The Fall

A Poem by Breezie Kae

Written during sophomore year.

You trust me,
you trust me no more,
just like it should be,
just like it should be.

You tell me that my mask was never taken off.
Stop faking it, you tell me, but I don’t know how to stop.
They say I’m not supposed to die, that’s what’s stopping me.
Call it divine or not, guess that’s my sign that I’ll be free.

Tell me all the little things you know I need to hear,
tell me that I’m stronger and I have nothing to fear.
You say I’m not okay and I know that you are right,
that’s why I let all hell break loose that night.

You say I’ll try again and there’s no way to contradict you,
when my thoughts the next morning are “why the f**k did this fall through?”
But at least give me some credit that I said anything at all.
I guess somewhere inside I know there’s flight after the fall

La, la la-la la-la la la-la-la,
la la la-la la.
(This isn’t all)
La, la la-la la-la la la-la-la,
la la la-la la.

You told me,
you told me you’re not angry,
I think you should be,
I think you should be.

I only promised you one thing, and look at that I broke it.
May as well just grind that up, breathe in until you choke on it.
My promises are empty, but I mean it all this time,
that this time I swear to you I’ll try to make things alright.

I expect no help this time as I’m tripping on my loss,
you say to stop complaining about the things that I caused.
I knew it from the start that it would never be easy,
but I think it’s about time I took responsibility.

I made myself this way, no matter how much I deny.
My defense is so built up I’m not quite sure why I cry.
I’ve faked myself so much I don’t know who I really am,
and through all of this change, yeah I know just where I stand.

La, la la-la la-la la la-la-la,
la la la-la la.
(This isn’t all)
La, la la-la la-la la la-la-la,
la la la-la la.

But this time around I think I’ll make it out, anyhow.
This time around I think I’ll make it out.
