The Day You Said Goodbye

The Day You Said Goodbye

A Poem by E.A.Rose

The day you said Goodbye-

I could tell you were already gone.

You stood in the empty doorway

 with nothing to say.

I wanted to tell you your smile

had changed and that We both knew your mission statement

no longer included a "we". You had become a lonely letter. I.

You sweat Guilt, maybe Guilt for the distasteful timeing

of your Goodbye. Maybe Guilt for selling our dog

on my birthday. Guilt for telling my sister I didnt love her.

Goodbye had become such an ugly word. Goodbye was a lousy substitute

for the words we both knew you needed to say. Could've said instead.

But choose not to.

Goodbye IS such an ugly word, isn't it?? Especially when so many people use it for hurting others. I thought this was a wonderfully emotiona and well thought out poem. Thank you for sharing.
