VolkA Poem by Earl SchumackerGrowing in the distanceVolk
Large jagged mountains undermine the sea of fluid silver Their solid backs of diamond green with envy hold the sky A distant oval sun pops through the ashen clouds Like a tiny moon that lost its fire On Volk the earthquakes never stop their motion Flat trees strung together low, find a way to grow Thin to thick along volcanoes turbulence Sideways on outer worldly lands they live Gray hills hold worlds together with their power Gravity holds the ground in place for safety sake Turns the infant planet midway through the solar cycle In a system far from home discerned by no one On a chosen path of randomness Rolling like a marble in an orbit all alone With hundreds of other rocks just waiting for a crash Avoiding collisions is a mystery Mercury lakes run large along the surface Shimmer in their viscosity above the noise Being silver is more difficult than you think When there are no sentient beings around to know of it © 2018 Earl SchumackerReviews
