The Last Planet

The Last Planet

A Poem by Earl Schumacker
"

A Quintain poem about a planet in motion

"

The Last Planet

The last planet on the left

Empty of passengers still

Within their own borders spin

In orbit around themselves

While exiting the solar system

Leave everything behind the sun

Large objects have a tendency

To carry too much weight in space

To stop reflecting on themselves

With light that is not of their making

To ask for directions forward on

One must leap into the cosmic soup

Far reaches are the things of dreams

There are no maps within the planning

When in the deep of things not seen before

The last planet swallowed whole by night

Left behind the sun including people

Passengers who were in it for themselves

To start a new beginning takes some skill

To leave the solar system takes a planet
