Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

And

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need

When the Great Plague broke out in 1665 Defoe was just a child.

He wrote a book called “A Journal of the Plague

Years.” (without any press coverage because

people could not read back in those days.) The

bubonic plague killed about 20% of the

population in England. I do not suggest reading

the journal because it is too depressing. It is

however, a perfect correlation to the Covid 19

 experience of today.

I do suggest reading Robinson Crusoe. It is an adventure survival story on how to survive the forces of nature and how to maximize resources found in nature. Next to the Bible it is the most printed, translated and read book in history.

Optional: I first suggest that you read Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to set the foundation of what it takes for human survival in any age.

Have a great day and a great adventure.

The Great Plague, lasting from 1665 to 1666, was the last major epidemic of the bubonic plague to occur in England. It happened within the centuries-long time period of the Second Pandemic, an extended period of intermittent bubonic plague epidemics which originated in China in 1331, the first year of the Black Death, an outbreak which included other forms such as pneumococci plague, and lasted until 1750.

Food for thought! Coincidentally, I come from the small Scottish fishing village of Lower largo where the real life Robinson Crusoe lived, the inspiration for Defoe's famous tale. I'm not sure that we should be losing too much sleep over the plague but as they say it's not over till the fat lady sings. I think this is more like a trial run for climate change.
Take care,
Alan
