Equine Heart

Equine Heart

A Poem by Ebs Newman

Bones connected by muscle and sinew

Built for strength

Built for speed

Leads nothing for the heart and soul

Full of courage Full of pride

Solid hooves thunder across the land

For in borrowing a gallop in the wind

We borrow freedom

We borrow grace

I learn so much more everyday

Seeing the kindness behind the different eyes

They can be as fierce as a warrior’s beating heart

Lend strength and courage in battle

Or as fast and fiery as the wind

With the love of a nation flowing down the straight

Bring home coin and cups upon their backs

Or as soft and gentle as a babies touch

Lending children the joy of that very first ride

We ride them in Western and English and all in-between

United in our love of the equine heart

True horsemen are all different

Race, sex and age

Yet we are all one and the same

In loving him, our horse

We strengthen our souls

And touch heaven on earth.
