The DaggerA Poem by Elise PehrsonAn unsuspecting break upThere you are, tormenting me, Saying a simple hello When you know how much we’ve been through, What we’ve done, What we’ll never do, But wanted to. I never knew someone could ache And love at the same time For the same person. When I see you, I want it to happen again, But it won’t. It ended In an instant. A terrible blink of an unsuspecting eye. What can I do To make you love me again? Because the thought of life without you Hurls a dagger deep into my soul, Stuck in my chest but can’t be pulled out, So I walk along forever Alone, fragile With this dagger. Never again to taste the sweet kiss of your smile Or live your laughter, To be your love. Never again to feel the warmth of your arms Nothing to do But watch you be happy And press forward. When I see you happy The dagger digs a little deeper But I still rejoice That you’re happy. Even though I’m left to break With no one to pick up the pieces. © 2011 Elise Pehrson |
