The Ballad of the Vices

The Ballad of the Vices

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield
"

Not really a ballad, at least I don't think so, I just wasn't sure what to call it... It's my most random yet...

"

I've got too many vices

And not enough verses

Your only advice is

Don't end up in hearses

And curses to those

Who would bring you to that

The ones bald with pleasure

And getting quite fat

Cause they're selfish and greedy

And you're kind of needy

Each breath breathed is bleeding

But you have such pride

Far too much to beg

Or to live at one's side

And you ponder your life away

Each battle I fight today

Is fought in your honor

Though my hairs are turning gray

Soon even I will fade

And my vices and verses

Will no longer be at play

They won't matter anyway

The price will have been paid

The rebellion of youth to perceived authority... youth is immortal, indestructible, so very focused - so very, very fragile...
