The Chains that Bind

The Chains that Bind

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield

The Chains that Bind

Chains

Writhing around you

Cold black snakes

Slithering across your skin

Driving away

That all too pleasant touch

Of Warmth

You chose this for yourself

To hide from the feelings

To run from your lust

You felt the temptation

Was just too much

So the things you hated

Became your greatest friends

To be trapped

Imprisoned in the Cold

This is how you chose to battle

The desire that seemed

To control you

To consume…

But you punish yourself

For naught

In the end

Everyone seems to give in

It’s just a matter of time

Before you break the Chains that Bind
