War of Attrition

War of Attrition

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield

Another look at my struggles, the struggles of a human heart...

War of Attrition

We’re studying war in History

Our country is preparing for war

But my heart is waging a battle

I’ve been fighting since long before

Now it’s echoing out all around me

And I can’t seem to settle the score

In this endless War of Attrition

What am I fighting for?

Am I fighting for Love? Am I fighting for Hate?

As our country is coming to war?

As the world begins to echo my soul’s battlefield

I know that I can’t take much more.

But both fronts stand tall, hold their ground

Destroying my strength at its core

In this endless War of Attrition

What am I fighting for?

Author's Note

Elizabeth Porterfield
I write a lot about struggle, about depressing thoughts, about the human mind and heart, and most of it is about me. I'm glad when other people can relate to it, because that means that I'm not alone in whatever it is I'm feeling. You are not alone is often one of the most comforting messages you can ever give someone. But there are just some battles we must fight for ourselves... Anyway, what do you think?

War is definitely a contraversial subject that I'd rather not go into. As for the more...personal aspect of war I think it's a good thing as long as it doesn't get too carried away. Eventually you must make a choice.

War itself is cleansing and settles those arguments that are monumental, well done, good read.

Thanks Thomas:) And I hope this particular war is cleansing... I truly do...
Seems to me this person is fighting themselve, subconsciously-conscious!
For the act of attrition can gradually reduce strength and lose effectiveness in yourself, someone or something... through pressure.
I'm loving the analogy to war and how this was written as a battle cry. We all fight a war inside of us! Relatable ink! :)
