The Judgement of a Murderer

The Judgement of a Murderer

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield

In the darkness

We descend

Staccato footsteps

Mark your end

Ragged breathing

The death wish send

You brought this on yourself

Your damaged heart

Your dreams depart

You thought you could mend

But today your end starts

You don’t have a choice

You lost your voice

You brought this on yourself

Your sins betray you

Were you satisfied?

In all your sick vengeance

You denied

The poor humanity

That hid inside

You brought this on yourself

Was it worth all of this?

Your pursuit of happiness

That led to so many dead?

Was it worth all of this?

All of these lies

Your anger in disguise?

You brought this on yourself

You can’t rely on

Her love anymore

She’s done and gone

She walked out the door

You cannot hurt her

As you did before

You brought this on yourself

In the darkness

We descend

Staccato footsteps

Mark your end

Ragged breathing

The death wish send

You brought this on yourself

Its kind of morbid and judgmental... but what do you think?

I like morbid. And judgmental. I like the rhythm, feels like a person talking to themselves, realizing they brought on their own heartache.
