The Mellow Sun Has Me

The Mellow Sun Has Me

A Poem by Brilliant Balances

I hear the sound of kids playing in the garden
As I come out to get some sun
Five minutes later Grandma's call to the cops
States 8 shots put her on the run
At that time I had merely looked up
Blinking, breathing, I am okay
As she was bursting out the door
"Get in the house NOW!!!" I heard her say
From inside the kids were then whimpering,
"Grandma, are we all going to die?"
Don't know if it's the chaos or the fear
That sparks the biggest lie
Out sunbathing calm and alone then
Not a whisper of children carefree
From within the darkness they moan and fuss
But the naked warmth of the sun has me
Just drinking a homemade latte
...this is the Sunday song to see
This calm feeling is what my skin soaks up
Today the mellow sun has me
