MEMORIES OF YOU

MEMORIES OF YOU

A Poem by Ellen Hammond
"

Last year my children asked me to write an "In Loving Memory" poem for their father who passed away on Fathers Day, 5 years earlier. So, that is why the poem says '5 years' even though in a few days, it will actually be 6 years.

"

MEMORIES  OF  YOU

Beauty of the dawn and sunrise

Whales and porpoise jumping higher

A sunset over the ocean

And the late night 'water fire'

These special gifts you loved to share

Even the glist'ning morning dew

Though five years passed since you went home

Each day we're reminded of you

Tom

"Though five years passed since you went home" brings tears to my eyes. it reminds me of childhood moments when my dad would come home late at night from work. I would always fear not seeing him around at late hours in the evening. I had been so protective of him, even until now. I can't imagine the pain every family feels when losing someone. Thanks for sharing this.

An Excellent tribute to a loved one. The imagery lends another dimention to the poem, very clever indeed.

Dear Ellen,

A beautiful tribute. And I agree with my good friend Mark (see review below) -- I usually do, that it would be wonderful to hear more about Thomas.

Very best regards,

Rick

This moves me. I have three kids and sometimes, in some strange way, can't help casting my thoughts forward to times when... Ach, to have such a tribute as the one you have written wld be an honour for any husband-father-man.

You are so right to keep his memory alive, as he is still and always will be with you in spirit. A beautiful poem indeed my friend.

Tell us more of Thom, and his connection to dawns and marine life. I feel that there might be more feelings bottled up in these few words than you have thus far seen fit to share.
